First car, not first claim: Pandora launches the anti-theft upgrade young drivers actually want

No black box, no app, no subscription

For most young drivers, the first car is the most expensive thing they own — and, thanks to keyless entry reaching even modest used cars, one of the easiest things in Britain to steal. The hatchbacks young drivers actually buy are among the most-stolen cars in the country, taken silently from driveways and car parks with relay boxes and cloned keys.

Pandora Car Alarms is today launching its Microbot immobiliser to young drivers with a deliberately un-gadgety pitch: one fitting, one price, and a car that simply will not move for anyone else — with no tracking and no monthly cost, ever.

Young drivers already know the alternatives, and mostly resent them: insurance black boxes that score every journey, tracker subscriptions that quietly renew, steering locks that live in the footwell. The Microbot takes a different approach:

  • The car only drives with your tag. Keep the small radio tag in your pocket and drive as normal. Without it, the car won’t start — however someone got “a key”. Relay boxes, cloned keys and ECU swaps all hit a dead end.
  • One price, then silence. Supplied and fitted once — no app, no account, no subscription, no renewal email in year two. It draws so little power it won’t flatten the battery, even if the car sits for weeks.
  • It is not a black box. The Microbot records nothing about how, where or when you drive. It can’t affect a premium, score a journey or be checked up on by anyone. It exists to do one thing: keep the car yours.
  • Fitted at home, hidden completely. A certified mobile engineer fits it concealed in the loom — typically within 72 hours — with no LED and no cut wires. There’s nothing on show to find or rip out.

A spokesperson for Pandora Car Alarms said: “Young drivers have spent a decade being sold surveillance dressed up as safety. The Microbot is the opposite deal. We don’t watch you, we don’t score you, and we don’t charge you monthly — your car just refuses to be stolen. You save for years to get your first car on the road; it should still be there in the morning.”

About the Pandora Microbot

The Pandora Microbot is a next-generation immobiliser, professionally fitted and concealed in the vehicle loom. The vehicle only starts and drives when the owner’s radio tag is present (or a PIN is entered on the car’s own controls), blocking keyless/relay theft, key cloning and ECU-swap attacks. Anti-hijack and automatic door locking on drive-away are built in. No app, no subscription, no tracking. Supplied and fitted nationwide by approved installers.
